Spain

Spain is the second-largest European country and is bordered by France, Andorra and Portugal with Morocco just a short distance away to the south in Africa. Couples choose to honeymoon there or host a destination wedding in Spain because it is an equally astonishing alternative to the other commonly visited honeymoon destinations in Europe such as France or Italy.

Spanish Attractions

In Spain, there are many things to do and see other than bull fights. In Madrid, couples could visit the Prado Museum, watch a Real Madrid soccer game at the Bernabeu Stadium, be amongst Spain's Royal Family at the Royal Palace or see Picasso's Guernica in the Reina Sofia Museum.

In Barcelona, couples could visit the La Sagrada Familia, Gaudi's famous church that is still being constructed on today. The Picasso Museum is also located here. Food enthusiasts could also visit La Mercat de la Boqueria near the La Rambla entrance. It is the largest market in Barcelona.

In Seville, flamenco dancing originated here, so couples could catch a flamenco show, visit the Alcazar or tour the tapas bars of Barrio Santa Cruz.

In Northern Spain, or the Basque region, couples can visit the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, hike along the Pyrenees or run with the bulls in Pamplona. The Running of the Bulls takes place in July.

If couples are looking to be away from the cities, they could travel to the three Balearic Islands to the east of Spain: Mallorca, Menorca or Ibiza. All three are noted for their splendor and their wonderful beaches.

Climate

Spain's climate is very diverse. In Madrid, the winters are very cold and the summers have moderate precipitation. In Barcelona, it has hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. In the northern region of Spain, such as Santiago de Compostela, the summers are warm and the winters are cool.

Tips

  • The ideal months to visit Spain are May, June and September. April and October are good months to visit the south. The worst times to visit are July and August, when the weather is extreme.
  • Getting around Spain is best done by bus. Couples save more this way because they get more for their money. Couples could also invest on a rental car. If they are traveling to the Balearics from the mainland, a flight to the Islands or a ferry are the two transportation units.
  • For money purposes, Spain is one of Europe's most affordable countries, so couples could easily get by with spending 20-40 Euro a day.
