Rehearsal dinner

A rehearsal dinner is an intimate dinner for family and wedding guests, usually held the night before the wedding (and after the wedding rehearsal).

Traditionally, the rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's parents and held at a restaurant, banquet hall, or at a family member's home.

The guest list for the rehearsal dinner varies greatly depending on the couple and their families' wishes. It is customary that the couple's immediate family members and all of the wedding participants, including the ceremony officiant, and their spouses or dates are invited.

Often, couples choose to expand the guest list by also inviting close family members outside of their immediate family and close friends. Some couples also chose to extend the rehearsal dinner invitation to out-of-town guests.

Budget tips

  • There is no need to break the bank! Ordering pizza and sitting around chatting is just as rewarding (and less costly) than a sit-down four course meal. The goal is to relax, so don't get caught up in trying to plan a mini-reception. Save your time, and your money, for the real deal.
