A place card is used to designate preassigned seats at a wedding reception dinner using assigned seating.
Place cards are usually set directly on each table to signify where a person should sit. Guests may be guided to their specific table via a seating chart or escort card.

You will need to make a very detailed seating chart if you are going to do individualized place cards. When drawing out your seating chart, make sure to indicate for whoever is putting the cards out where the dance floor is in relation to the table, so they know exactly where to put the cards.
One unique place card idea is to combine your place card and your menu, with a belly band going across the menu that includes the guest's name. Then, you place this at each guest's seat; and the menu can even correspond to what that particular guest is eating, if you have different meal options for a seated dinner.
