Cake cutting

The cake cutting is when the newly married couple cuts the first slice of wedding cake together. It is symbolically the first task performed together by the couple after they have been officially married.

Tips

Cut a BIG piece of cake (much bigger than you would think for a serving of cake), it's much easier to get it out without having it break.
Don't forget to have fun and laugh!
Unless you want to eat with your hands, make sure the venue has placed a plate and fork by the cake for you to use.
If your cake has a front and a back (meaning one side is more decorated) be sure that side is facing towards your guests/photographer. If the fancy side is facing you, it won't show in the pictures!
Make sure and have 2 small plates, either desert or bread and butter size, 2 forks, and a moist cloth napkin on hand, as well as the cake knife and server. The knife is to cut, the server is to lift out the slice from the cake.
Cut a nice generous piece of cake with 2 insertions of the knife, then cut across the back to release the slice. Lift from under the slice with the server and steady with the knife to the side of the slice.
Place the slice on the plate your mate is holding and then you can each serve from that slice or cut another slice from the main cake to serve from as well.
Wipe up fingers and mouths with warm napkin, then continue to party party!
