Wedding vows

Wedding vows are the promises a couple makes during the wedding ceremony. They are what the couple pledges to do for one another, during the best and worst of what their lives will entail. Some couples choose to say traditional vows, since they are rooted in history and may be easier to remember. Other couples write their own vows themselves, either together or separately.

Tips

The vows you will say is a very personal choice. Some couples think it is more meaningful to say vows that are more traditional. Other couples want to write their own so that the promises they make are completely their own. Have a candid discussion with your partner about what each of you prefers. You should also speak with your officiant about what s/he recommends.

Make sure your officiant has a copy of your vows. In case you get nervous and forget some of the lines at the altar, he/she can mouth them to you for you to repeat.

Traditional Vows

I, give you this ring as a symbol of my love. I choose you to be my wife/husband, to have and to hold from this day forward for better or for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish as long as we both shall live.
