Washington, D.C. marriage license

A Washington DC marriage license is a marriage license issued by the Washington, D.C. Moultrie Courthouse located at 500 Indiana Avenue, N.W., Room 4485, Washington, D.C. 20001

The marriage license costs $35 and the marriage certificate costs $10. The total fee of $45 is paid by cash or money order made out to Clerk, D.C. Superior Court for the application to be accepted.

Marriage license application must include Social Security numbers, address, dates of both parties as well as any previous marriages information such as the city, state, country of each marriage as well as the ending status of the marriage - divorce or death.

Legal

  • Minimum age for marriage is 18 years of age or 16 with the consent of an adult or guardian.
  • The law requires a premarital blood test for syphilis (District of Columbia Health Department form DHS 366)from both parties at the time of license to be issued. The form is valid for 30 days.
  • Three full days need to pass in order for license to be issued.

Civil Ceremony

You need to specify the date and time you want the civil ceremony to be held at least 10 days before the application. This information is to be given to the clerk at which point s/he will contact you to confirm the appointment. The ceremony room can hold up 10-15 people and there is no fee for a ceremony.
