Portugal is a European country located in southwestern Europe and is bordered by Spain to the north and east. Couples may choose to have a honeymoon or destination wedding in Portugal because they would like to experience the less-visited countries in Europe when it comes to honeymoons and destination weddings.
There are limitless activities and attractions in Portugal. In the capital of Lisbon, couples can visit the Castelo de Sao Jorge (a castle that has been a fortress since the 5th century), the Alfama quarter (the oldest region of Lisbon), the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum (Gulbenkian was an Armenian oil magnate and this is his private art collection) or for religious buffs, Fatima (the site where the Virgin Mary appeared in 1917 to three children).
In Oporto, couples can visit the Solar Vinho do Porto (a place famous for its port wines), the Igreja de Sao Francisco (a church dedicated to St. Francis) or the Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis (an art museum opened in 1840).
In Madeira, couples can see the astonishing Sao Vicente Caves (a series of lava tubes left after a volcanic eruption), the Whale Museum (tells the history of the whaling industry), or Porto Santo (Madeira's sister island. Its southern coast has very lovely beaches).
Portugal is one of the warmest European countries. From April to October, the climate is very pleasant. In the Algarve, the climate is pleasant nearly year-round. The wettest months are from November through March.
