Photographer

A photographer is an individual who takes photos for a living. Couples often hire a photographer to take photographs at their wedding.

When a couple hires a photographer, they are guaranteed to work with that particular photographer. The photographer may use an assistant or secondary shooter, but the primary photographer will be the person hired. Typically, a photographer is a freelancer who works for themselves; any payment goes directly to the photographer.

In contrast, a photography studio is made up of a number of photographers all working together under a single brand name. A photography studio is typically a company; any payments go to the company, who then either pays a commission to the photographer or pays their salary.

How many weddings have you done / are shooting this season?

Can I get references from past clients (If no, definitely a red flag)

Will you travel to my location?

How do you charge? This is big. Figure out exactly what you're getting in terms of prints, albums and your ability to buy the images.

What is your style?

What is the overtime cost per hour?

What are the procedures for the negatives? (Does the photographer keep them for a specified amount of time, do they give the to the couple?)

Will there be an assistant photographer?

Are engagement photos included?
