Climate

Morocco climate is classified as Mediterranean and since it is located in the North African Sahara desert, it is atypically hot. But the area does experience actual seasons and honeymooners may find winters to be downright chilly. Spring and fall temperatures are generally mild and cool while the late winter and early spring are the wettest time of the year. In summer, coastal breezes generally keep temperatures bearable even in July and August. As you move inland, the climate grows hotter and drier, reaching extremes in the eastern part of the country, where the Sahara Desert begins.

Tips

  • Couples wanting to going to Morocco to lie on the beaches can join the masses of Europeans who arrive in July and August. If you want to visit inland cities such as Fez and Marrakesh, consider going in spring and fall, when temperatures are mild rather than unbearably hot.
  • Cities and towns throughout Morocco hold festivals from March to October. Highlights include the National Folklore Festival, held in Marrakesh each June, and the International Arts Festival, held every August in Asilah.
  • If possible, avoid travel during the month of Ramadan, when offices, shops, and restaurants tend to operate on reduced hours. Ramadan is based on the lunar calendar and changes from year to year.
  • Couples traveling from May to October should pack light, loose-fitting clothes. Except on the beach, shorts and tank-tops are not recommended for either sex. Modest clothing is key: women should keep legs and shoulders covered, especially in rural areas and if you plan to visit mosques.
  • It is also essential to pack a hat, sunscreen, and an umbrella!
