Makeup (or cosmetics) is a substance (or substances) used to enhance or protect the appearance of the bride, bridesmaids, etc. on the wedding day.
Some brides may choose to DIY -- but many choose to lower their stress load and hire a professional makeup artists.
Tips
Skin
- For your skin prior to your wedding day, make sure to drink an ample amount of water to hydrate your skin and keep it clear. Carrots are also good for the skin.
- About two months before your wedding, try out some new face products that have had great reviews for exfoliating your skin if you have some problem areas with blemishes, moisturizers if you have dry skin, products that help oily skin or any other product that would aid your skin if it has issues.
- It helps to put on moisturizer before you apply foundation, so the product doesn't easily come off.
- If you have oily skin, it is best to use powder foundation. If you have dry skin, it is best to use liquid or cream foundation. But also think about the season of your wedding and what foundation would work best.
Blush
- For your blush, use a powder-based blush since they last longer.
- Apply them on the apples of your cheeks and lightly dust around your face for a hint of a glow.
Eyebrows and Eyes
- For eyebrows, it would be best to get them plucked or waxed a few days before the wedding as it will leave a red mark.
- For your eyes, use a waterproof mascara and waterproof eyeliner if you choose to wear these products.
- If your eye lashes don't stay curled even with a curler, use waterproof mascara since there is more wax in it to keep it curled.
- If your wedding weather is humid, brides can do a light dusting of their powder foundation over their eyes to catch the oils in the makeup and keep it from running.
- To brighten eyes and make you look more awake, use a white eyeliner pencil on the corners near the tearducts.
Lips
- Purchase a long-lip color or lip gloss.
- If your lips are too dark and you want to wear a light lip color, apply a bit of your concealer on your lips to lighten them then apply the lip color.
Considering the Look
When thinking about the look you want your makeup to reflect, there are many things to take into consideration. According to Brides.com[1], there are a few simple tips to look-out for when trying to decide.
Think about the time of day. Just like you wear different make-up when going to a brunch than you would when going to a club -- you're going to want your look to reflect the time of day.
Think about the season. Every season has its colors. Your wedding colors likely reflect that, and your face should too. Don't go with dark colors if you're having a light, summery wedding, and vice versa.
Bring out the best you. It's your day -- you want to look great! Have a consultation at a local make-up counter for color choices.
The Makeup Artist
When looking for a makeup artist, be sure to check the BBB or ask if they have a business license. You can always hire a friend -- but make sure whoever you hire can give you references. This is once day you don't want to mess up. As your friends who they picked to do their makeup.
A makeup artist will generally bring their own makeup, but you may want to purchase the lipcolor so you can have it throughout the day for touch-ups.
