This article is about grooms changing their last name. For name changes in general, see name change.
In Western culture , a tiny minority of grooms undergo a name change after their wedding.
- Only six states allow a man to change his name upon marriage as easily as a woman: Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Massachusetts, New York and North Dakota. [citation needed]
- Even in states that allow grooms to change their last name, the couple will not be able to change their name to a completely new last name solely through marriage. The new last name is required to be version of at least one of their last names. Otherwise, they will need a court order. [citation needed]
- In all other states, a man must have a court order to legally change his name. [citation needed]
