A green wedding is a wedding that is environmentally conscious.

[edit] Green Wedding Tips

  • Look for post-consumer or recycled paper for wedding invitations
  • Purchase vintage eco-friendly, or conflict-free wedding rings.
  • Serve organic, locally grown food.
  • Use organic, locally grown flowers.
  • Donate your food and flowers.
  • Offset what you can't reduce. [1]
  • Choose a venue that minimizes travel for guests.
  • Take an eco-honeymoon.
  • Buy a vintage wedding dress.
  • Have bridesmaids wear a dress they already own.
  • Donate the wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses to charity.
  • Instead of flower petals or rice, throw ecofetti. It dissolves when sprayed with water.
  • Use potted plants and herbs for centerpieces, they can be taken home by guests or you to enjoy for long after the day is done.
  • If you are having your wedding in an area where you can take public transit (you'll probably get some unique pictures from that adventure).
  • Reduce paper usage by having a wedding website (eliminating the need for direction inserts and RSVP cards and envelopes).
  • Reduce the size of your guest list.
  • Reserve hotel rooms for your guests at an eco-friendly hotel [2]
  • Consider serving a vegetarian menu and/or eliminating as much dairy as possible from the menu.
  • Serve organic, shade-grown coffee if possible.
  • Skip personalized napkins and just stick to cloth napkins on the tables.
  • Hold your ceremony and your reception in the same location.
  • Donate your centerpieces to a local hospice or hospital to reuse them.
  • Choose other zero-waste vendors (florist, hotel, etc.)
  • Collect digital photos instead of providing disposable cameras for guests.
