Tips
Hiring
- As with most vendors, ask around for good wedding florists in your area by getting recommendations from friends who have married or from your other vendors. A personal referral is very powerful in this industry.
- Gather a lot of inspiration BEFORE the consultation. Color schemes and attire may affect your choices in flowers, so have that worked out before you meet with a florist. It might help to show an inspiration board that conveys the overall style you're trying to achieve.
- Bring examples of types of flowers that you like and don't like. That will help your florist keep the floral design to include only the things that you like.
- Know how much you're willing to spend on flowers. Special attendant flowers, ceremony decor, and centerpieces can add up quickly when you're least expecting it. Any florist should be able to tailor back any arrangement to stay within your budget. Keep an open mind during this exercise.
- Be realistic about flowers in season. All flowers have a peak period when they are at their freshest and most abundant. Pay attention to the season in which you will be married and let that steer the direction for your flowers. Otherwise, your bill goes up just to find the flowers you are wishing for.
- If there is a certain flower you love, but it might be rare or out-of-season, ask your florist for alternative flowers that look similar. You might be pleasantly surprised by what else is available.
Trends
Recent floral trends include:
- Some brides are choosing to keep a monochromatic look to their flower bouquets, but each bridesmaid carry a different flower bunch. For example, one BM will carry pink tulips, another will carry pink roses, and a third will carry pink peonies.
- Centerpieces don't have to be identical table to table.
- Centerpieces are including high and low arrangements across tables.

There are also many trends where the arrangements aren't just flowers anymore:
- Bouquets might contain herbs like sage or rosemary.
- Peacock feathers might be used as an additional accent.
- Fruit (like limes and lemons) and even artichokes might be used in the centerpieces.
- Succulents and cacti might be the centerpiece.
