After-party

An after-party is a party thrown by a newly married couple for their wedding guests. It usually takes place on their wedding day, after the formal wedding reception is over.

Contents

Popular Parties

  • Karaoke
  • Clubbing
  • Board games (they can really help break the ice and bring all the guests together)

Popular Locations

  • Hotel room
  • Bar
  • Tea Shop
  • Hotel Lobby
  • Asian Bakery

Tips

  • Not all guests may approve of an after-party, especially if alcohol will be served. This is especially true for a church wedding.
  • You don't have to pay for the guests drinks or snacks, although it is nice if you can afford it. You should just make sure you invite all the guests. It doesn't have to be a formal paper invite, it could just be an announcement at the end of the reception.
  • Make sure to have your DJ announce your after-party information at the end of your reception so people know where to go if they want to join you.
  • Having your after-party in the lobby of the hotel where your reception is being held is often the most convenient way to do an after-party - practically no planning is required, just check to see when the lobby lounge/bar closes.
