1980's music would typically be played during the reception by either a live band/musicians, DJ or even a CD. Reception Music could include the entrance song (for the bride/groom & bridal party), first dance song, father/daughter song, exit song, slideshow song, game songs, waiting songs and best of all, the dance songs (for everyone).

This style of music is normally upbeat and funky. It is not just for people who grew up in the 1980's but for any fans of this era. Many of the songs have been played in films & mainstream media so it is recognizable among many age groups/generations of people.

Listen to a demo of the band, if possible.
See if the band adheres to a certain 80's style in terms of wardrobe and see what wardrobe changes they do.
See if the band plays a particular 80's style of music and make sure it suits the bride & groom.
Make sure your reception venue has enough room to hold a live band and what the acoustics in that venue are like.
Pick songs that your guests will dance to.
